Tony, MHI did a superb job assisting OMHA's effort to save the Commission. The loss of the Commission was purely political power play by the Kasich Administration and had nothing to do with any support offered by MHI or anyone else.

The need for this type of organization was called for in 2009! The benefits could be SO GOOD for the industry, especially the independents and smaller retail stores who are running tight budgets!

Multiple motions, submitted by JoLeigh Ares' counsel, are pending in the Cameron County 404th District Court. I spoke with the prosecutors, early August 2017. They assured me that they have a solid case. I do hope that your parents, and others affected by Ms. Ares' greed and reprehensible business practices, will receive relief from the proceedings. More importantly, I hope that the prison sentence is lengthy.

I'm no expert, but the FEMA homes for Katrina were all electric and of far less utility in the after market than they would have been had they been convertible to natural gas heat and cooking. The few Katrina FEMA homes we purchased cost hundreds of dollars per month to heat in MidWest winters, and render them virtually unrentable.

The Clayton ads are good for everyone in the manufactured housing industry, not just Clayton. I would like to see them on more than a football game.
These ads and other positive ads should run constantly on HGTV which features many "Tiny Home" programs. One just has to look at the success of the tiny home movement to see that manufactured home builders should be doing the same. Tiny homes speak to millennials, empty nesters and adults with multiple children because they made it "cool" to declutter your life, go minimalist & tiny at a very affordable price and mobility. What more could these "smart" people ask for? Why spend two-thirds or more of your income on housing with nothing leftover for fun & enjoyment?
Manufactured homes are better built to HUD standards and less expensive than many of the teeny, tiny, tiny homes. So why aren't they appealing to more buyers? You all talk about the "stigma" that still follows the thought of "trailer park trash" and when Clayton finally starts to change the narrative, you whine about it.
We want many more positive ads glorifying how smart a buyer is to invest in"today's" beautiful, factory built home. We want to see the ads everywhere; housing magazines, HGTV, TV, cable, internet, celebrity endorsements. Airstream has done this for years and it works. Did you see the Airstream article in Architectural Digest? Made me want one. How about huge billboards in Houston? People who lost their homes to Harvey can have a brand, new, beautiful factory built home, built to local HUD and zoning regulations and have it far sooner than rebuilding a site built house. Think Positive!

Sorry to be ignorant, Lance, but Americans for Prosperity says the Federal Budget is spend 52% on SSI/Med (you know, for the moochers and looters), 16% on national defense, and 6% on interest on the Debt. I'm not too bright, but that's 74% of the budget. If you are going to define whatever the Feds spend on as "mooching and looting", it's obviously your right, and none of it is justified. I'm not sure how helpful that is to the discussion, but if it makes you feel better, go for it.

You can add www.platinumcottages.com to your list as we have been building them for several years out of a new facility outside Athens, TX. We primarily build park models that are 399 square feet and smaller but we also build the smaller tiny homes.

I can't imagine it being said any better than from these three. All I want is what I produce, a fair shot and the freedom to decide for myself how to live my life. I started at the bottom working for minimum wage washing dishes, flipping burgers, mopping floors and learning how to deal with the public. I have become successful because of hard work, perseverance and delayed gratification. People that produce wealth in the private sector despise government and its tax arm while the wealthy that deal in the public sector despise the true private sector that refuses to be enslaved by government contracts and connections because they don't know how to do it. Your commentor hiding behind a bogus screen name is ignorant of the cause and affect of government intervention in the market place. Most of the tax money is not spent on roads, schools, police or infrastructure but instead on buying votes by promising freebies to the moochers and looters of society. I would lump most public company CEO's in with the moochers and looters.

First, thanks for the thoughtful comments. Let's take a 100-year step back. Prior to that time, there was almost no federal debt. Ron Paul's point might be summed up as, "What has the income tax, federal reserve, trillions in social spending achieved?" While I respect Libertarian thought, as an independent, my tilt is towards 'solidarity and subsidiarity.' This post was shared precisely to get a conversation going. Thanks again for sharing!

I'd have more sympathy for the wealthiest being "over taxed" if their share of wealth was not increasing so much more dramatically than the bottom 80% of the country.
Which, of course, it is, as are the multiples of CEO pay to the men and women at the base who make corporate wealth creation possible. Who do you think makes more use of our country's resources? Roads, airports, customs, police and fire protection, schools, government subsidies to corporations in which they are invested? The wealthiest or the poorest among us? So who should have the greatest share of paying for these resources? And then, there's the deficit and National Debt, much of which has wound up in the accounts of our wealthiest Americans. When has a tax cut done anything but balloon the debt and deficit? Why do you think it will be different this time? Revisit Hamilton: An American Musical, and learn the backstory. Washington led troops against protest of the whiskey tax, which was levied to pay the cost of our new government and nation.

Agreeing, .need to push back and show industry stats; beautiful floor plans and home photos; energy efficiency data and comments from residents who support and encourage growth of this much needed commodity. The wide range of "happy residents" in lifestyle 55+ communities; to those interested in the smaller home movement; to those seeking affordable options. The industry needs to speak in one firm voice that this type of talk is unacceptable. Maybe continuing to POST percent of homes pre-HUD mobiles vs. post 1976 manufactured would be helpful. Need to work more with the home retailers and media to correct the "language".
